Why should we service our water cooler?

Many customers now choose to purchase their mains fed, or bottled water cooler, outright, in an effort to save money.  However, sometimes this can work out to be more costly in the long run. We’ve all seen a cheap deal for a product on eBay or Amazon – but as with all types of equipment – in order to get the most out of it, it needs to be looked after on a regular basis. 

Mains-fed coolers and bottled water coolers work on the same premise. They both chill water in a reservoir to enable end-users to dispense chilled water as and when required.  If these machines aren’t cleaned internally – inside the tank – then bacteria can grow and build up to high levels in a layer of biofilm that covers the inside.  This is something that naturally occurs and can easily be removed by a qualified engineer using water safe cleaners.  Germs and bacteria can also grow in the lines, tap faucets, and filters and so need to be cleaned at the same time as the tank.

Having a regular servicing program will help ensure your machine is sanitary and offers users good hygiene levels.  For bottled coolers, regular servicing is even more important as every time you change a bottle on the top of the cooler, you are touching the neck of the bottle itself.  This in turn is upended into the water reservoir and contamination to the tank can occur.

For mains fed drinks machines, regular servicing should include the changing of the 1-micron carbon filter.  Whilst not essential to have a filter on these types of machines, they can greatly help improve taste, reduce odors, and remove unwanted matter from the mains supply.  Mains fed cooler are always going to significantly cheaper for your business as well as better for the environment too.   By changing the filters as well as regular servicing, it means you can dispenser water of optimum taste and quality year-round for a fraction of the cost of bottled.   It is really important when deciding whether to buy or rent a water cooler that additional costs such as servicing contracts are factored into the initial costs and outlay.
